Life: hairy stories.

Life: hairy stories.

As you all certainly know, H&M has collaborated for some time with the label Maison Martin Margiela. The hype was big and on almost any blog you could not NOT read it. Of course I also wanted to have a look at this coveted collection. Long story short, a few weeks ago I went to the  H&M flagship store and  took a closer look at the collection. Fortunately, I was able to get the coveted parts one day before the official sale, as H&M invited me to a pre-shopping event. Armed with a glass of champagne, I’ve dug myself through the collection and inspected every piece. I would dread to think what the official sales day was like, because even during the pre-shopping girls were fighting over some pieces.  I think the most desirable piece were the glitter pants even though my sneaking skills are quite good, I had no chance to get them. SOLD OUT- DAMN YOU – VIENNESE FASHIONISTAS! But enough with my sob stories and let’s talk about the interesting stuff.
Since most items of the collection were too extravagant for my daily use and my beloved glitter pants were already sold out, I decided to get a hairy little thing at least. „Hairy“ is the keyword here my dear friends and it is where my story begins. So I bought this fluffy little awesome piece of blond hair and took it out the very next day. Proudly I wore it to the office and I never would have imagined what reactions a small blond necklace may cause.  After I arrived in the office I got myself a cup of coffee ( I do not work without it) and the very next moment a colleague asked me out of nowhere if I collected the hair of some victims who I obviously murdered. You could have seen the question marks flying over my head – In HIS opinion, wearing hair around the neck is nothing less than a trophy and a clear indicator of a serial killer. Typical coffee talk!? In MY opinion, the best man has seen too many episodes of Dexter.  After this incident I tried to avoid any small talk for the rest of the day. The conversation in the morning was almost forgotten, when my necklace became the topic during lunch again. Another colleague asked me, if I had my hair cut. A strange question, because she saw me for the first time in the office this day. Little surprised, I asked her why she would think that and once again the answer was something worth writing about.  She looked at me, occasionally staring at my hairy necklace,  as if my blonde „something“ had drawn her into its spell. After an awkward and silent moment she said something like: „I thought you cut your hair in a really depressing and sad moment and now, because of your deep regret, you  would wear it around the neck“ (Remember the coffee talk about trophies?). After this comment I just continued to chew – slightly disturbed – on my salad and went silent for the rest of the day. Who would have thought that a small necklace can cause so many conflicting opinions? For some people it might be a trend and a must-have and for others a sign of deep psychological problems or serial killer ambitions to wear a hairy necklace. I’m still pondering what kind of reaction glittery leggings or a XXL oversize sweater would have caused. But no matter what the reaction might have been, I would have proudly worn them to the office anyways. I like my trophies.
